Constituency visit to Portarlington- Thurs Nov 3rd

Posted on November 03, 2011 at 09:20 AM

I will be in Portarlington for a constituency visit today, visiting my colleague Senator John Whelan and meeting with economic and cultural stakeholders active in the area. Such visits are crucially important to my work as an MEP- They provide feedback and perspective on the concerns and challenges facing my Ireland East constituency, which I can then bring back to Brussels and relay to the European Parliament.

If you're in Portarlington today and would like to meet me and discuss my work in Brussels or Ireland, please come along. My itenerary is as follows;

11am- Meeting with Senator John Whelan at the Community Centre. Also meeting with Seamus Kehoe and Carol McCann, who are involved in the “Portarlington 2020 Vision” plan- this encompasses tourism, business, agri diversification, resilience and Eeducation.  We will later meet Colm Dunne from the local tidy towns Committee, who are very involved in the “Dirty old Town’s”  project to clean up Portarlington.

11.30am- I will be going on a walkabout of Portarlington, speaking to constituents and visiting a centre where local artists will be showcasing their designs.

2.00pm- Returning to the Community Centre to talk with an Arts and Heritage delegation. This will include Sinead O’Reilly (Offaly County Council Arts Officer), Cabrini Cahill (Performing arts and Former Arts Officer from Laois County Council) and Celia Deverell from Portarlington Arts and Heritage Committee. These delegates will give a presentation on how Arts are coping in the face of the difficult economic challenges affecting the sector.
